Scenic Skye
The Vikings called Skye "the Cloud". In Gaelic it is known as the “isle of mist”. No other island in the British Isles can compare to the beauty and romance that is Skye. Located on the west coast of Scotland, Skye is home to some of the country’s most alluring scenery. Castles and landmarks throughout the island provide a beautiful foreground to the perfect backdrop. Yet, they also serve as a reminder of a bloody history between the feuding clans of Macleod and Macdonald. The rich blend of historic heritage and natural splendour has attracted and captured the hearts of many visitors.
The main town of Skye, Portree, is a charming place with a great history as a fishing port. To this day Portree still prides itself on the quality of its seafood and standards are kept extremely high in local restaurants.
Driving around the northernmost spur of Skye known as the Trotternish Peninsula is guaranteed to take your breath away. Magnificent rocky ridges line the road while tall rock formations stands around the Sanctuary, including the 50m high Old Man of Storr.
